The relationship between our conscious mind, our physical body and our etherial spirit is a complex one. And when we’re out of balance in one area, it could be affecting another. The cells in our nervous system react to every thought we have, which means our bodies are listening to our brains. Amazing, right??

But think about it. What information are you currently feeding your body through your mind? Is it largely positive or largely negative? Our minds are powerful machines and it can take a bit of repetition and training if you’d like to shift how it works. However, the payoff is totally worth it. When our mind and body are in alignment, we tend to naturally listen to what our bodies are telling us and make healthier choices in all areas of our lives.

So how can you begin working with your mind?

  1. Meditation. Hands down, my favorite suggestion for calming an overactive brain. And it can be difficult if your brain is busy! Try setting the alarm on your phone for small segments of time, like 3-5 minutes to start. Every time a thought comes into your brain, just notice it and ask it to wait until you’re done. As you get more comfortable, extend the time until you can sit quietly for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Journal. Just get it all out on paper. Whatever is on your mind, write it down without any rhyme or reason. The things that are bothering you, the things you are grateful for, and the things you’d like to manifest in the future. When you make a daily habit of journaling, new and interesting information and ideas to solve problems or approach difficult situations will start coming to you naturally.
  3. Work with Essential Oils. When your mind is on overdrive, put a drop of essential oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together gently, cup your hands over your nose and mouth and inhale deeply three times. One of my favorites to help me relax is Peace & Calming, an uplifting blend of Tangerine, Orange, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli and Blue Tansy.
